South Australian sport has banded together to raise over a million dollars for the SA Bushfire Appeal culminating in the successful Bushfire T20 Showdown at Adelaide Oval on Sunday.

The combined efforts of the South Australian Cricket Association, the Adelaide and Port Adelaide Football Clubs, the Adelaide Oval Stadium Management Authority and the SANFL helped raise a grand total of $1,015,239 to bushfire relief efforts spanning back to the Adelaide Strikers’ Bushfire Appeal match held on Australia Day.

Over 34,000 people attended Sunday’s Bushfire T20 Showdown in an impressive sign of support for the charity drive.

Port Adelaide won the match by 14 runs with an imposing 7/231 off its 20 overs, however the result was almost an afterthought given the generosity of the South Australian public.

Several Adelaide Strikers put their skills on display in the clash, with leg-spinner Rashid Khan, captain Travis Head, hard-hitting batter Bridget Patterson ‘keeper Alex Carey among those to impress in their adopted colours.

Fans can continue to support the fundraising effort by bidding for Rashid Khan’s Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV which is now live on auction. All proceeds will go towards the SA Bushfire Appeal drive.

Donations can also still be made directly here.
