“A team without AB De Villiers or a team with AB De Villiers…I’d like to see that guy play”. Those were the words of South African great Jonty Rhodes. Speaking on the sidelines of the Road safety World series in Mumbai, Rhodes was of the opinion that South Africa should “do anything“ to win the T20 World Cup.
However, Rhodes was skeptical of the precedent picking AB De Villiers would set, as it would mean someone else who has been playing for South Africa consistently, missing out on a spot.
AB De Villiers last played an international game for South Africa in March of 2018, and Rhodes expressed his praise for AB De Villiers’ quality “I suppose a lot of people watch how he performed at the IPL but just watching him in the Big Bash, he’s such a class player”.
Mark Boucher, the South African head coach, had also recently hinted that he would be open to selecting AB De Villiers in the T20 World cup team. It would be interesting to see how this story develops, with one of the greats of the game making a comeback and playing at the topmost level again would attract even more eyeballs to the event in Australia later this year.
