Cricket West Indies (CWI) has partnered with the Caribbean Public Health Agency (CARPHA) to raise awareness of the novel coronavirus across the region and around the world.
Several members of the West Indies men’s and women’s teams have made appearances in a series of eye-catching and educational infomercials which will be aired on television channels around the cricket-loving archipelago and in Guyana. These are also available on social media platforms and YouTube.
The partnership is the brainchild of CARPHA – the regional public health agency which is an arm of CARICOM. They have worked closely with CWI’s Medical Advisory Committee to establish the details. The videos feature West Indies Test captain Jason Holder and white-ball skipper Kieron Pollard; star all-rounder Dwayne Bravo; as well as West Indies women’s team members Chinelle Henry and Britney Cooper.
To launch the initiative, CARPHA held a webinar on Thursday morning in Trinidad to raise awareness of their efforts to combat the challenges posed by the COVID-19 pandemic.
Ricky Skerritt, President of CWI, was among the special guest speakers and noted the organization was pleased to be part of the outreach programme.
“Thanks to CARPHA, the Caribbean will continue to be a truly safe place to visit. During this challenging period, CARPHA has helped CWI to keep our cricketers tested, well informed and ready to go to work. Together, CWI and CARPHA will ensure that it won’t be long before ‘cricket tourism’ can be up and running again in our region. Next year should be an exciting year for West Indies cricket and we invite travelers to start planning to visit the Caribbean,” he said via video link-up.

The West Indies men’s T20I and Test squads are presently in New Zealand, preparing for three-match T20Is and two ICC World Test Championship matches. This is the West Indies men’s team’s second away tour since June 2020, the only international team to fulfil two away tours during the COVID-19 pandemic. The West Indies women’s team also completed a tour of England where they played five T20 Internationals in September.
