Central Gauteng Lions (‘CGL’) congratulates and celebrates Momentum Proteas & CGL starlet, Ayabonga Khaka, who was selected to participate in the  BCCI (Board of Control for Cricket in India) Women’s T20 Challenge – also known as the IPL in the UAE.

Khaka who is drafted by the “Supernovas” outfit  has already started to repay the faith shown in her with a brilliant opening match display where she was the pick of her side’s bowlers with figures of 2 – 27 – 4 in an unfortunate loss to fellow Momentum Proteas star Sune Luus’ Velocity.

As the tournament progresses the CGL Starlet will bring much needed experience into the Supernovas’ bowling attack and will be striving to help her IPL side to their first win of the tournament.

Speaking ahead of the T20 Challenge in the UAE, the twenty-eight-year-old expressed her delight;

“I am so excited and eager to be working with the respective Supernova coaching staff and most importantly the players. I believe this is an opportunity to build a relationship with them and capitalize on the entire experience.” Khaka commented.

“Furthermore, I am looking forward to the different challenges that will come with playing in the IPL” concluded Khaka.

Imperial Central Gauteng Lions Women Coach, Shaun Pretorius, has welcomed this selection as testament to Khaka’s hard work and dedication to the game.

“It has been a long time coming. When you look at the number of hours and hard work she has put in over the years, one would say Aya is very deserving of this selection. We are proud of her achievements as an organization and hope she enjoys the entire experience.” an enthusiastic Pretorius said.

“This tournament can only mean that women’s cricket has grown, over the years. This gives us so much confidence in the development of the game for women and we hope, when she comes back, she can share the wealth of knowledge with some of the cricketers here at the CGL.” Pretorius concluded.

The tournament is comprised of three teams and began on the 4th of November and concludes on the 9th of November 2020.
