NZC: Cricket in schools pilot programme a success

Must Read

NZC in partnership with Auckland Cricket, Takapuna Grammar School (TGS) and Harbour Sport delivered the first of three workshops targeted at those people who play a key role in influencing the way sport is delivered at school.

There were representatives from Takapuna Grammar, Belmont Intermediate and North Shore Cricket Club that participated in the two-part workshop.

The first part of the workshop was delivered by Dr. Craig Harrison from the Athlete Development Project, that focused on developing youth athletes, educating coaches about growth and maturation and providing them with practical activities they can use for their players depending on their needs at the different stages of their maturation.

The second part was a collaborative effort by Auckland Cricket and Harbour Sport that delivered Good Sports®.  Good Sports® aims to create positive sporting experiences for Kiwi kids by supporting and educating the key adult influencers in children’s sport: parents, caregivers, coaches, teachers and sport leaders.

The next workshop will be delivered early in the new year that will focus on coach development and an extension to the Good Sports® workshop.
