Exciting local pair Corey Rocchiccioli and Liam Guthrie have joined the Perth Scorchers as replacement players for the 2020-21 KFC Big Bash League.Guthrie replaces WA teammate Cameron Green, who remains on duty with the Australian national side, while Rocchiccioli comes in for Ashton Agar who sustained a moderate grade right calf strain in the final match of the Dettol ODI Series vs India.

Agar will return to Perth in the coming days to continue his rehabilitation and at this stage is aiming to return to play in the BBL over the Christmas/New Year period.

Promising off-spin prospect Rocchiccioli has been travelling with the Australian squad this summer as a practice bowler, developing his craft against world-class players at the top of their game.

An oblique strain on the eve of the Sheffield Shield season in November ruled the uncapped rookie out of the five-week Shield hub, but he’ll now have a chance to stake a claim for a BBL debut.

Guthrie has played 10 first-class matches for WA, taking 19 wickets and is the latest of a long production line of left-arm talents to progress through the Scorchers set-up.

Perth Big Bash fans will have the chance to see their Scorchers heroes live in action at Optus Stadium in the New Year with the public release of tickets for the January block of Perth home matches going on sale today at 10:00amWST via Ticketmaster.

Scorchers head coach Adam Voges said;

“We’d planned for Ashton Agar to be unavailable at the start of the tournament with Australian A commitments, he’ll miss a few more games now but he’ll re-join the squad when fit.

“It’s great that we’ve been able to bolster our bowling stocks with Liam and Corey, they’ve got an opportunity to travel to Hobart and we’re excited to have them in the squad.”
