University of Canberra has secured the rights as Presenting Partner for all Sydney Thunder matches played at Manuka Oval during this summer’s KFC Big Bash League.

The partnership delivers to University of Canberra a strong match day profile through signage, digital, and naming rights benefits at the iconic Canberra cricket ground that Sydney Thunder calls its second home.

Director of Sport, Carrie Graf, said one important benefit the partnership delivered was it provided students who’ll be away from their families over summer with an opportunity to engage in a social activity during the festive season.

“The University of Canberra is thrilled to be partnering with Sydney Thunder for the upcoming Big Bash League matches to be played at Manuka Oval in Canberra,” she said. “The league provides a wonderful opportunity for Canberrans to spend time outdoors while watching what promises to be thrilling cricket over the next few weeks of our summer holidays.

“This partnership with Sydney Thunder further underpins the University’s commitment to the development of sport in our nation’s Capital. UC is home to elite athletes from various disciplines, has partnerships with a number of our leading Canberra sport teams, and is the training home to some of Canberra’s top professional sporting teams.

“Our partnership also provides another opportunity to support our students who will be remaining in Canberra over the summer break – those who cannot return to family oversees or are remaining in Canberra for work or study purposes – as it links ideally to our Summer at UC program that aims to keep students connected and supported during a time when they may feel isolated; and the Big Bash League provides the perfect opportunity for them to get out and spend time with friends.”

Established in 1967, the University is highly regarded for its sport, education, elite teams, health and fitness programs, and is ranked highly among Australia’s universities.

Sydney Thunder’s Acting General Manager Chris Botherway said the partnership with University of Canberra would deepen the BBL team’s connection with the city.

“Our partnership with University of Canberra for our matches at Manuka Oval this summer is in line with Sydney Thunder’s desire to have a connection with the community of western Sydney, country New South Wales and the ACT,” he said.

“We are extremely proud that University of Canberra – which has earned an enviable reputation for its sports programs – has identified Sydney Thunder as a vehicle to highlight the incredible work they’re doing for their students and community.”
