History books were rewritten on Sunday when Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s Kamran Ghulam surpassed the record for most runs in a first-class Quaid-e-Azam Trophy season.
The 25-year-old Upper Dir-born achieved the feat in the evening session on the third day of the final against Central Punjab as he nudged the ball of his pads for a single to complete his 77th run in the second innings.
He went on to record his fifth century of the season as he made unbeaten 104 on the back of 15 fours and one six in front of the broadcast cameras.
Kamran broke more than 36-year-old record held by opener Saadat Ali, who had scored 1,217 in the 1983-84 season.
Kamran, the right-handed batsman, has enjoyed a prolific run in the season. Following the conclusion of the day’s play, Kamran has accumulated 1245 runs and averages 65.53.
On the historic feat, Kamran Ghulam, while speaking to pcb.com.pk, said: “This has been an extraordinary season for me and I am grateful to my teammates and my coaches who have played an integral role in my success this season.
“I also want to thank my family as this would not have been possible without their sacrifices in this extraordinary season which has kept the players away from their houses for the past four months.
“This season has given me a lot of confidence and now I have more faith in my abilities than before. Having a legend like Abdul Razzaq as a coach has helped me in identifying my strengths and now my aim is to build on them.
“My aim is now to build on this and represent Pakistan at the highest level.”
Kamran rose to prominence in 2013 when he made his Pakistan U19 debut. In the 19 matches, at the age-group level, he scored 586 runs at 48.83 and his left-arm spin accounted for 19 scalps at 26.21 runs per dismissal.
In his seven-year-long first-class career, which began with the 2013-14 season, Kamran has scored 2409 runs, which includes nine centuries and has taken 25 wickets.
On Friday, 1 January 2021, Kamran Ghulam was named PCB’s Domestic Cricketer of the Year by an independent jury featuring top cricketing names.
