The Chairperson of the CSA Interim Board, Justice Zak Yacoob has listened to the published recording of a conversation between him and Sunday Times journalist, Tiisetso Malepa.

Judge Yacoob acknowledges that the tone of his comments was inappropriate and apologises unreservedly.

Some inappropriate statements were also made by Mr Malepa specifically in previous articles involving Judge Yacoob and the work of the Interim Board, which is unfortunate.

Judge Yacoob has said that he has no objection to the publication of the recording in the interests of transparency.

As a former Justice of the Constitutional Court, Judge Yacoob is committed to freedom of expression and the media’s role in a democracy as outlined in our constitution.

Furthermore, the Interim Board is completely committed to transparency and openness in its dealings with the media.

Judge Yacoob has made himself available for comment.
