Queensland Cricket has thanked fans, members, and the Brisbane Heat team in the wake of the end of their KFC Big Bash League season.

The Heat were knocked out of the race for the BBL|10 title by the Perth Scorchers on Thursday night in Canberra and finished third overall, the club’s highest placing since 2016-17.

Ratings for Thursday’s Challenger Final exceeded 1 million once again during the KFC BBL Finals series, with the Heat overall being one of the most viewed clubs in the BBL.

Queensland hosted eight games across Brisbane and the Gold Coast, including the club’s first home final since 2016-17 at the Gabba, while Metricon also hosted four non-Heat BBL matches.

Queensland Cricket CEO Terry Svenson expressed gratitude for support shown to the club across the season.

“It was very rewarding to see so many families and fans getting together to enjoy the Heat games at the Gabba and Metricon Stadium,’’ he said.

“Likewise, those interstate supporters, and passionate fans who found a way to travel to Heat games added tremendously to the season.”

“It was also rewarding to experience outstanding support from the Queensland Government and Stadiums Queensland to enable fans and teams to benefit from playing matches in Queensland.

“Likewise, the support from our sponsors and partners went over and above the usual commercial structures as we found innovative and creative ways to work together and deliver outstanding experiences,’’ Svenson said.

The resolve shown by the playing squad and staff was highlighted by Svenson as deserving praise.

“We certainly thank and acknowledge the great efforts of the players, coaches and support staff, and their families and friends, for ensuring the season was a success despite the challenges faced.

“They spent time away from their loved ones in various bio-secure bubbles across the tournament and produced exciting and competitive matches.”

“Across the year, the WBBL and BBL teams were within a game of the grand final. We will continue to build squads and cultures that will see us have success into the future.

“Both the WBBL and BBL remain our most important vehicles to get girls and boys playing cricket and we know we are in the strong positions to continue growing both leagues.”

Both the WBBL and BBL Heat teams finished third this season.
