Sam Harper’s season at the top of the order and slick glovework has been recognized by the Melbourne Renegades members who have voted him the club’s Player of the Season for BBL|10.

The only Renegade to feature in all 14 matches, Harper was the team’s leading run scorer (351 runs at a strike rate of 124.02), tied with Shaun Marsh for the most sixes hit (10) and struck three half centuries. He also took nine catches and effected three stumpings, rounding out another season of significant progress.

So strong has Harper’s form been since crossing to the Renegades ahead of BBL|08 that he was chosen in the club’s Team of the Decade by selectors Aaron Finch, Andrew McDonald and Simon Helmot.

It speaks volumes of the impact Harper has made since leaving the Melbourne Stars, having topped the side’s run scoring chart twice in three seasons.

He began the season with a strong half century against the Hurricanes in Hobart, and kicked into top gear once the side returned to Melbourne, hammering 63 in losing causes against the Stars and 57 against the Heat.

The 24-year-old has now played 47 Big Bash matches and shapes as a key player in the Renegades’ bid to rise up the ladder in BBL|11.
