Former Queensland fast bowler Greg Rowell has been nominated by Queensland Cricket to fill a vacant position on the Board of Cricket Australia.QC Chairman Chris Simpson today announced that Tuesday night’s Queensland Board meeting, which was held in Toowoomba, saw Directors endorse the recommendation from the QC Nominations Committee that Rowell be put forward to Cricket Australia to fill the position left vacant when Michael Kasprowicz resigned in July last year.

Rowell, 54, played first class cricket for NSW, Queensland and Tasmania and was a member of the Australia ‘A’ one-day team that famously played against Australia in a World Series Final in 1994-95.

In the same summer, he played a significant role in helping Queensland to earn the right to host the historic 1994-95 Sheffield Shield Final but missed the decider due to injury sustained in the last games of the regular season.

A lawyer, he is the founder of commercial law specialists RowelLegal.

He is President of Western Suburbs District Cricket Club and founder of the multi-sports Chelmer Sports Inc body, as well as serving as a Director of the Queensland Cricketers’ Club.

Simpson said Rowell was the unanimous choice of the Board once his nomination was tabled.

“On behalf of the Board, I’d like thank the nominations committee for the hard work they did working through the large number of applications for the role,’’ he said.

“It was a lengthy and thorough process and the Board was very pleased when Greg was proposed.”

“He has a deep and passionate interest in all aspects of the game, from grassroots to the elite. Wests have been one of the leaders in women’s cricket for instance, and they have worked hard to be a leader within their community.”

“Greg was widely respected for his dedication and skill as a player, and his tenacity in overcoming adversity and injuries as a fast bowler was much admired by his teammates and peers like”

“We are pleased to present Greg as Queensland’s recommendation to the CA Board Nominations Committee and look forward to that being endorsed in due course to enable him to take the seat at the CA Board that has been vacant since Michael Kasprowicz stepped down.”
