Generous support of Thunder Nation results in more than 190K meals for those in need

Sydney Thunder is committed to making a real and meaningful difference in the community and is proud to work together with OzHarvest to help Australians faced with food insecurity.

OzHarvest is Australia’s leading food rescue organisation, meaning its staff and volunteers collect excess food from commercial outlets and deliver it to 1,500 charities across Australia – 200 of whom support the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities.

Thanks to the generous support of the Thunder Nation across the past three seasons, the club has provided a total of 190,786 meals for those in need.

“We are proud to make a meaningful contribution on and off the field,” said Sydney Thunder Community Impact Specialist Jake Balnave.

“Through strategic community partnerships, we are able to increase our reach and ensure that we are helping those in need.”

This season’s fundraising efforts culminated in the auction of limited-edition Indigenous playing shirts worn by WBBL and BBL players, resulting in more than 29,000 meals for those in need.

A pledge by Thunder’s Official Partner, Homestar Finance, to donate 100 meals to OzHarvest for every four struck by a Thunder batsman during the BBL tournament resulted in a further 22,500 meals for some of Australia’s most vulnerable people.

OzHarvest Partnerships Executive Julia Grove is extremely thankful for the support of the Thunder Nation.

“Despite extreme challenges over the past year, Sydney Thunder’s commitment to support OzHarvest was unfaltering. We are so proud to be part of the Thunder Nation,” said Grove.

“This partnership supports our planet and its people. It ensures that good food does not go to waste and is delivered to those who need it most.”
