The Minister of Sports, Arts and Culture, Mr Nathi Mthethwa, has called a joint meeting with the Interim Board of Cricket South Africa (CSA) and its Members’ Council for Tuesday, 30th March at 17.00.

The Interim Board was given a specific mandate by the Minister and the Members’ Council to implement the 2012 Nicholson Report. Key to this is the acceptance of the principles of a majority independent Board and an independent Chair.

Following joint working group sessions and guidance from leading governance expert Professor Michael Katz, the IB presented its proposals.  The Members’ Council’s bewildering intransigence on these two principles has led to the current impasse between itself and the Board.

The Board cannot renege on these two principles and therefore welcomes the joint meeting with Minister Mthethwa. “We hope that common sense will prevail to avoid another crisis in South African cricket,” said CSA Interim Board Chair, Dr. Stavros Nicolaou.
