The West End Redbacks are pleased to announce the recruitment of Brendan Doggett, Nathan McSweeney, Jake Carder and Nathan McAndrew in its 2021-22 contract list released today.

Doggett, a right-arm fast bowler moves from Queensland where he has firmed as a leader in the bowling attack.

The 27-year-old quick took 22 wickets in the 2020-21 Marsh Sheffield Shield season, including best second-innings figures of 3/37 against New South Wales in the competition’s final.

It was a second title for Doggett, after he also claimed a five-wicket haul in the Bulls’ 2017-18 Shield victory.

The tearaway burst onto the scene in 2017, taking 4/33 in his debut first-class innings against Victoria.

Young allrounder Nathan McSweeney will also make the move south, as a right-hand bat and handy off-spin bowler.

The 22-year-old made his first-class debut at just 19 after involvement in the 2018 Under-19 Cricket World Cup, and he dominated Queensland Premier Cricket last season with 1186 runs at 62.42.

Carder, a top-order left-hand batsman switches from Western Australia where he played 11 Shield games for two fifties, and he also finished with 864 runs and three centuries in WA Premier Cricket.

McAndrew, most renowned for his KFC Big Bash dominance with Sydney Thunder, will be eager for more opportunity to add to his limited State appearances to date as a ready-made fast bowling allrounder.

In addition, joint 2020-21 Bradman Medallist Sam Kerber, and Adelaide Strikers and West Torrens batsman Ryan Gibson have also earned full contracts after impressive Redbacks debuts.

Kyle Brazell (Adelaide Uni, left-hand bat), Bailey Capel (West Torrens, left-hand bat), and Victorian bowler Jordan Buckingham (Footscray, right-arm fast), have each been awarded rookie contracts.

Head Coach Jason Gillespie said:

“We are extremely delighted with the additions we’ve been able to make to freshen up our squad, and we’re optimistic for an improved 2021-22 season.

“We have added considerable depth and increased our pace stocks, namely with Brendan who is a two-time Sheffield Shield champion, and we welcome each new player and look forward to the beginning of pre-season.
