CSA: Adams appointed as the new Head Coach for the Border Professional team

Former Proteas bowler Paul Adams has been appointed as the new Border Coach for the new provincial system.

Adams needs no real introduction as being a player for Western Province and Cobras from 1995 – 2008 and South Africa from 1995 – 2004. He took 134 Test Wickets, 29 in ODl’s and 412 First Class Wickets. He won the South African Cricketer of the Year award in 2002.

As a coach, he has been the Head Coach of a South African domestic franchise in all three formats of the game, winning five domestic trophies in that role. He has also worked as a coach with the South Africa ‘A’ and a Spin Bowling Consultant for Cricket South Africa. He has achieved a CSA Level 4 Coaching qualification, has a proven record of coaching elite teams and players, as well as a deep understanding of international and first-class cricket demands.

In his previous coaching positions, some of his achievements include:

• Momentum One-Day Cup Winners 2012/13 and 2013/14

• Momentum One-Day Cup Runners up 2014/15 and 2015/16

• Sunfoil4-Day Series Winner 2012/13 and 2013/14

• Ram Slam T20 Challenge Winner 2014/15

CEO of Border Cricket, Andile Mxenge said: “We are really looking forward to the new cricket season, with having the legendary Paul as our Head Coach. He brings a wealth of coaching experience and expertise to the team and we have no doubt that he will be successful in terms of the teams’ performance and working with our coaches to develop our young talent in the black belt of South Africa”.

Adams said: “It’s an exciting time in South African cricket and an exciting time in the Border region. With the new restructuring of professional cricket, it’s an opportunity to contribute and be part of building success in the region. Legends of cricket have come out of this region and we would like to develop some more home-grown hero’s again. I see my role at Border as one in which I have to help nurture a team culture and to get each player to perform at optimum level. It is an honour to be named head coach for the Border region and Iam excited to get to East London and to connect with the team.”

Adams commences employment on 01June 2021.
