Rachel Trenaman is the latest domestic talent to make the move south to Tasmania, with the batting allrounder committing to the Hobart Hurricanes for two seasons from WBBL|07.

A crucial member of the WBBL|06 title-winning Sydney Thunder team, despite her youth, the 20-year-old has experience well beyond her years.

Trenaman joined the Thunder squad at just 15 years of age, before making her debut aged 17 in WBBL|04.  Since then, she has gone on to play 23 matches in lime green, with an impressive strike rate of 96.62 across all three seasons.

As well as opening the batting for much of WBBL|06, Trenaman bowls a handy right arm leg-break, with best figures of 2-11, which she incredibly made on her tournament debut.

No stranger to success, Trenaman is currently also a member of the NSW Breakers squad, a team she also debuted for when she was a teenager.  Across the seven matches played in the 2020-21 Women’s National Cricket League (WNCL) season, Trenaman amassed a total of 304 runs, including four half centuries, at an average of 43.

“I’m looking forward to playing with the Hurricanes,” Trenaman said of her signing.

“So far, all my development in cricket has been through the pathway in New South Wales, which is obviously a really strong program, but I’m looking forward to learning how the Hurricanes operate too.

“Because I have played all my cricket over the last five years in NSW, part of the attraction of making the move is to be working with new minds and different perspectives from both the coaches and the players, so I’m eager to learn and progress my game further.

“Given the great things I’ve heard about the program I’m really excited to be immersing myself in a new environment and am confident of the success we can achieve.”

Trenaman joins Nicola Carey, Maisy Gibson, Rachel Priest, Chloe Rafferty, Amy Smith, Naomi Stalenberg, Molly Strano, Belinda Vakarewa and Tayla Vlaeminck as the players announced as being contracted to the Hurricanes for WBBL|07.
