The Melbourne Renegades will play the first five matches of their Weber WBBL|07 campaign in Tasmania.

Changes to the tournament’s schedule have been announced by Cricket Australia today, which will see the first 20 games played over two weeks between Hobart and Launceston.

The Renegades will now begin their campaign a day earlier than originally scheduled – on Saturday 16 October – against the Hobart Hurricanes at Blundstone Arena.

This will be followed by another game at the same venue against the Adelaide Strikers on Wednesday 20 October.

Three matches will follow at the University of Tasmania Stadium in Launceston – the first under lights against the Perth Scorchers (Saturday 23 October), followed by games against the Sydney Sixers (Sunday 24 October) and Sydney Thunder (Sunday 27 October).

Players and staff based in Victoria and New South Wales will travel to Tasmania at the end of next week to complete a 14-day quarantine period prior to the tournament.

Melbourne Renegades General Manager, James Rosengarten, said the team was excited for the start of the season.

“We’re looking forward to playing the opening fortnight of the Weber WBBL|07 in Tasmania,” Mr Rosengarten said.

“This decision provides our players, coaches and staff with certainty around the first five matches of our campaign. We can’t wait to get our season started against the Hurricanes.

“As a club, we are committed to growing cricket for women and girls and we will continue to find ways to connect with our passionate Renegades fans in Victoria, who we know will be watching on and cheering loudly from home.”
