Regarded as one of the brightest young talents in the region, Shimron Hetmyer will definitely be looking to leave his mark at the upcoming ICC T20 World Cup. Having displayed the skill necessary to score runs in international cricket, evidenced by his exceptional ODI record, Hetmyer is a potential match winner.

Currently engaged in the Indian Premier League in the UAE, he is one of a few West Indies players with the benefit of experiencing the conditions prior to the World Cup. This could prove vital for the #MenInMaroon against such high quality opposition.

Due to his technical ability and proficiency against spin, many expect ‘Hetty’ to anchor the batting in the middle overs. Hetmyer will be encouraged by his teammates, several West Indies T20 legends, as this World Cup signals the passing of the torch to the younger generation of players.

#MissionMaroon go into the tournament as defending champions and are keen to retain the title. In 2016, when WI last won the competition, Shimron captained the West Indies Under 19 to the U19 World Cup to form a part of a famous ‘treble’ year, with the women also winning their World T20 final. Success in this tournament could truly serve to announce Shimron Hetmyer’s arrival in senior men’s international cricket.
