The Hobart Hurricanes have secured one of the world’s most in-form young cricketing talents, announcing Englishman, Harry Brook, as their second international signing for KFC BBL|11.
The 22-year-old batter, who has already captained his country at ICC U19 World Cup level, has just been awarded the Men’s Young Player of the Year Award by the Professional Cricket’s Association (the players association representing professional cricketers from England and Wales).
Brook has had a stellar season during the English summer, particularly in the shorter forms of the game. Representing Yorkshire, he was the fourth-highest run-scorer in the Vitality Blast with 486 runs at an average of 69.40, whilst he finished among the top 10 run-scorers whilst player for the Northern Superchargers in the inaugural edition of The Hundred, despite only playing five innings.
Past and current cricketing greats from the likes of Kevin Pietersen to Ben Stokes already have big praise for Brook, who say it’s just a matter of time before he is wearing the Three Lions. In fact, across both the T20 Blast and The Hundred, Brook amassed more runs than any other English player, averaging 61.36 and striking at 150.33 from the middle order. He also came into the season with a first-class average a shade under 25, but finished it as Yorkshire’s second-highest run-scorer in the County Championship.
Just yesterday Brook added another accolade to his already burgeoning trophy cabinet, being awarded the 2021 Cricket Writers’ Club Young Player of the Year Award.
Brook was reportedly in high demand from several BBL clubs, but it was the Hurricanes who were able to secure the 22-year-old’s signature. He will be available to play for the entirety of the KFC BBL|11 season.
“I can’t wait to come out to Australia and play in the Big Bash for the first time,” Brook said.
“Over the years I’ve really enjoyed watching English cricketers like myself come out to Australia, and it seems that not only have they really enjoyed their time playing in the BBL, but a lot of them have also taken their game to the next level.
“I’m really hoping that I can do the same, so I just can’t wait to get there, get stuck in and learn as much as I can.”
Brook is the Hurricanes second international player signing for KFC BBL|11. He joins Scott Boland, Tim David, Nathan Ellis, Peter Handscomb, Caleb Jewell, Josh Kann, Sandeep Lamichhane (o/s), Ben McDermott, Riley Meredith, Mitch Owen, Joel Paris, Wil Parker, D’Arcy Short, Matthew Wade and Mac Wright as players currently contracted.
