As tickets go on sale for a bumper KFC Big Bash League summer season, the Brisbane Heat have put fans and the community first with a string of winning moments today.
Fans will be delighted with the re-signing of three of Queensland’s up and coming stars for BBL|11 and beyond, while the wider community will benefit from the Brisbane Heat’s new partnership with Surf Life Saving Queensland that will highlight a summer surf safety campaign.
Brisbane Heat players will star in Surf Life Saving Queensland’s new summer safety campaign to deliver an important message to young men this summer: She’ll be right won’t save your life. It’s the risks you don’t take that make you safer.
Surf Life Saving Queensland’s 2021 Coast Safe Report revealed Queensland had suffered their second worst year of coastal drownings since recording began, with 20 people tragically losing their lives on Queensland beaches. Of these twenty, 75% were young men between the ages of 20-49 years old.
The new campaign, which features four video commercials, encourages young men to consider how they can reduce their personal risk when visiting the beach. The key messages include deterring from swimming at night, not drinking and swimming, swimming between the flags and swimming at a patrolled location.
The partnership is all encompassing, with Surf Life Saving Queensland having the opportunity to spread surf safety awareness and fundraise at select Brisbane Heat home games. For more information and to view the commercials, visit: lifesaving.com.au/safety-info
The Heat faithful will also be buoyed by the re-signing of key trio Max Bryant, James Bazley and Matthew Kuhnemann, with all joining the club for the next two BBL tournaments.
Bazley, who made an immediate impact with bat and ball last summer in his first BBL season, adds to the squad’s all-round depth.
Kuhnemann is coming off a month to remember with career-best first-class figures for the Queensland Bulls in their Marsh Sheffield Shield win in Townsville.
The 25-year-old claimed 10-167, the best Shield figures by a Queensland spinner in more than four decades and surpassing the effort last summer of his Bulls and Heat counterpart Mitch Swepson.
Bryant is entering his fourth summer with the Heat, and the 22-year-old blasted into the headlines on the weekend with a stirring 157 for the Gold Coast in the KFC Queensland Premier Cricket competition.
The re-signings mean the Heat have one more contracted spot to fill.
With one month to go until the start of the KFC Big Bash League, public tickets for Heat home games went on sale this morning through Ticketek after a strong pre-sale day yesterday.
There will be seven Heat home games these summer holidays with five games at the Gabba and two at Metricon Stadium on the Gold Coast.
All home games will fall within the Queensland school holidays with three of the team’s last four games at the Gabba.
The Heat will take on the Melbourne Renegades at Metricon Stadium on the Gold Coast on Monday 13 December, with their first Gabba match inside a week later when they host the Sydney Thunder on Sunday 19 December.
