It is with great sadness that South Western Districts Cricket announces the passing on of one of the company’s Non-Independent Directors, Levesto le Roux (aged 52). The late Mr le Roux, who served on the Board of Directors since July 2020, passed away on November, 18th 2021.

Mr le Roux, who hails from Dysselsdorp near Oudtshoorn, was an educator by profession and was involved in various capacities in SWD Cricket for more than 25 years.  He played club cricket for Dysselsdorp Cricket Club whereafter he got involved as an executive member and later chairman of the club.  He also became involved in umpiring where he was an active member of the SWD Cricket Umpires Association and officiated in various Cricket South Africa national tournaments.  He also served on the Executive Committee of the SWD Cricket Umpires Association before he became chairman of this body and also served on the SWD Senior Selection Committee.

He was also a respected football administrator who served in the structures of SAFA Eden. His widow, Debbie, also served on the Executive Committee of the SWD Cricket Board and is currently the vice-chairperson of the SWD Women’s Cricket Committee.

In his tribute the President of SWD Cricket, Mr Rudy Claassen, said – “On behalf of the cricket fraternity of the SWD I would like to honour his contribution towards SWD Cricket”. “Our heartfelt condolences to the le Roux family. He was a respected administrator and will surely be missed”, he concluded.
