The Melbourne Stars have secured Pakistan off spinner Syed Faridoun, plus the signatures of experienced keeper Peter Nevill and young talent Brody Couch as local replacement players ahead of BBL|11.

It will be the first time 19 year old Faridoun will experience Big Bash cricket.

Melbourne Stars General Manager Blair Crouch welcomed his signature.

“We are really pleased to welcome Syed to the Stars’ family. We look forward to seeing him in action at the MCG in front of our members and fans,” Crouch said.

Faridoun will be available for the entirety of KFC BBL|11.

Peter Nevill, originally from Victoria, has spent the majority of the last 13 years in New South Wales and has previously enjoyed stints with the Renegades and Sixers in the Big Bash.

The 36 year old keeper has represented Australia across all three forms of cricket and is an important addition to the Stars’ squad.

2021 has been a year of firsts for Brody Couch, having made his first class debut for Victoria in November against NSW and his Marsh Cup debut for Victoria in March against Tasmania.

Stars Coach David Hussey welcomed the signings on the eve of the season.

“Peter will be a valuable asset for our younger players with his wealth of experience and cricketing knowledge that he has gained over a long period of time,” Hussey said.

“I’m also looking forward to working with Brody this season. With the experience among the Stars squad, it will be a fantastic opportunity for him to learn from our three T20 World Cup winners and the rest of the team.”

Blair Crouch was optimistic ahead of the first game on Sunday against the Sixers.

“We’re thrilled to see both Peter and Brody commit to the Stars and we have some more exciting signings to announce in the coming week. We’re looking forward to opening the season on Sunday against the Sixers and we can’t wait to get back in front of our members and fans at the MCG.”
