Sydney Sixers: Hughes – SCG Final Crowd best atmosphere I’ve ever played infront of

Sixers batter Daniel Hughes loves this time of year, not only because he gets to run out on the SCG in front of a sea of magenta, but also because he enjoys being back in camp with his teammates.

For Hughes, the Sixers are more than a team, they’re a group of close mates beyond cricket.

“I really enjoy seeing the guys this time of year, getting together and having a bit of fun,” said Hughes.

It is that team bond that has helped create a culture of success among the Sixers, and sees them shooting for an unprecedented third straight Big Bash title.

“I’m happy to be back in magenta and back around these lads because I feel like we grow another leg when we get together,” said Hughes.

“Everyone is so confident in each other’s games and everyone backs each other up.”

The ‘threepeat’ is something no other Big Bash team has managed, but Hughes says it isn’t something the team will focus too much on.

“We won’t speak about it too much, we’ll just stick to our processes and do what we do,” said Hughes

“It is certainly a huge carrot dangling in front of us, to do something that no other team has done before.

“It is pretty special to win two in a row – hats off to the list management and Shippy to keep the same group around and give the guys who have been there and done that to go out there and have the chance to win three in a row.”

Like many of his teammates, Hughes is excited to return to the SCG after a season based on the Gold Coast for much of BBL|10. The batsman has fond memories of last year’s final, calling it the best atmosphere he has ever played in front of.

As well as five games at the SCG, the Sixers will also head to Coffs Harbour for two matches this season, a venue Hughes is more than familiar with.“We played the Strikers up there a couple of years ago,” said Hughes.

“It is a nice batting wicket, it was a high scoring game and the crowd up there was awesome.

“It is a small country ground, the crowd is right on top of you, it is pretty loud and the atmosphere is great.

“The guys are going to love to get up there again for a couple more games and hopefully we can put on a good performance for the local fans.”
