After a long and fruitful association with Western Province Cricket, SuperSport has decided to divest its shareholding in Western Province Professional Cricket (Pty) Ltd.

This follows a change in SuperSport’s strategic focus around investments, and the restructuring of domestic cricket. It is a decision mutually agreed to by both shareholders.

SuperSport’s 50 percent shareholding will duly return to the Western Province Cricket Association.

Notwithstanding the divestment, SuperSport will retain a relationship with WP Cricket as a strategic media partner.

“I would like to thank Western Province cricket for 20-plus years of loyalty and acknowledge them for striving for excellence, often in trying times,” said Marc Jury, Chief Executive of SuperSport.

“Cricket is moving into an exciting space and we at SuperSport look forward to what is to come,” concluded Jury.

Said Michael Canterbury, CEO of WP Cricket: “Western Province Cricket would like to thank SuperSport for the pivotal role that it has played in supporting the growth of cricket in the province over the last 20 years. We continue to look forward to working with SuperSport in its new role as our strategic media partner. As cricket ventures into a new era, we have no doubt that both parties will continue to mutually benefit from the long-established relationship.”
