Young gun Jason Sangha reflects on his BBL return
Jason Sangha had a long wait between BBL innings, but he was ready when his time came around again last weekend.

Sangha’s impressive 39 against the the Brisbane Heat was his first knock since BBL|08, but you wouldn’t know it with the way the young batsman performed on the big stage.
For Sangha, changes over the last few seasons have meant he is always preparing at a high level to be ready to go whenever he is called on.
“Ever since the X-Factor was brought in you have to be ready to play whenever,” said Sangha.
“Now with COVID as well, it is even more crazy.
“Even when you are told you aren’t in the XI, the old coach’s chat was ‘make sure you are ready’ which is actually more relevant now than ever because of last minute changes, injuries, COVID – it is pretty hectic!”
While Thunder fans would’ve been happy to see him come back into the XI and contribute with the bat immediately, Sangha is his own biggest critic.
“I probably feel like I should’ve done a lot more with the bat – I got myself to a really nice platform where I could’ve launched towards the back end of the innings,” said Sangha.
“It was nice to know my game is still in a pretty good place – I always knew it was there or thereabouts.
“At times when you are not being selected you can go searching for things that aren’t there. You go through periods of really trying to change things – I have fallen into that trap before.
“This year I feel my game is in a good place, I am hitting the ball really well so I don’t need to go searching for something that isn’t there.
“I know that if I do get called upon, the blueprint for my batting is going to work – I just need to trust it.”
Knowing he was confident in his ability had Sangha in a good mindset when he made his way out onto the Gabba on Sunday.
“It was probably the most relaxed I have ever been, I had more of a sense of relief than nerves,” said Sangha.
“I was batting with Alex Hales and I said ‘geez it has been a while, it is nice to be playing in front of a crowd.
“It was good fun – nice to get some runs, and most importantly contribute to the win.”
