England fast bowler Reece Topley signed off on his stint with the Melbourne Renegades in style, claiming three wickets in the team’s Derby win against the Melbourne Stars.

It was the 27-year-old’s final game for the Renegades in BBL|11 after being called up for a tour of the West Indies.

“It’s bittersweet to be going, but hopefully I leave the boys in a decent position in the ladder to try to make finals now,” Topley said.

“I’m gutted to be leaving so soon, but it’s one of those things that can’t be helped. I’m looking forward to getting started in the Caribbean but disappointed to be leaving the Renegades.

“I’ve loved it and I definitely leave feeling like a Renegade. The guys have made me feel incredibly welcome.

“Thank you to all the fans and thanks to the players and coaching staff. It’s been a very memorable time and I’m thankful for everyone’s relationship with me.”

The left-arm quick has played an important role for the Renegades alongside Kane Richardson in particular, bowling the bulk of his overs across the power play, power surge and death overs.

He finishes his maiden BBL campaign with nine wickets from seven matches, including best figures of 3-27 against the Stars.

“I’m happy that there’s no more power surges left for me, until maybe next year,” Topley said with a laugh.

“I’m sure that the Renegades’ death bowling is in good hands.

“(Richo) has been unbelievable, he does it game-in, game-out – he’s so reliable. I’ll miss playing alongside him, he’s an amazing bloke. He’s one of the guys I knew already coming out here, but my respect and appreciation for him as a bowler has just gone through the roof.”
