Earlier this week, Ben Cooper announced his retirement from an international career:

“Today I announce my retirement from international cricket. It has been an absolute honor and privilege to wear the orange and represent the Netherlands for the past eight years. It was a time of great highs, special moments and also difficult lows I wouldn’t change a thing about it and can look back on very nice memories.”

“@kncbcricket – thanks for the opportunity to make a childhood dream come true. To my Dutch teammates and coaches (past and present): thank you all for the great memories. I couldn’t have wished for better people to join the pitch and changing rooms I have no doubt that the current roster and the talent to come will continue to deliver great performances for Dutch cricket.”

Ben made his debut for the Netherlands in 2013 in a match against Canada and since then has played a total of 58 T20I and 13 ODI matches. In T20I cricket Ben excelled the most and with a total of 1,239 runs, an average of 28.10 and a strike rate of 125 he is the current Dutch record holder.

Ben’s ‘retirement’ is a great loss for Dutch cricket. Not just as a player; Ben is also a much loved member of the squad and his cheerful disposition in and around the locker room will be missed. The KNCB thanks Ben for everything he has done for Dutch cricket and wishes him all the best for the future.

Coach Ryan Campbell: “Ben has been a mainstay of the Dutch top order for almost eight years and his cricket retirement is a great loss to Dutch cricket. His ‘team first’ ethos was always visible, as was his passion to represent the Netherlands. He leaves as our highest ever scorer in T20Is and no Dutch fan will ever forget his partnership with Wes Barresi, where he made a century and gave us the win against Namibia that took us further into the Super League.

I wish Ben all the best as he begins the next chapter of his life.”
