Cricket South Africa (CSA) have named a squad of 36 players for a Girls U-19 Talent Acceleration Programme (TAP) camp set to take place between 04-07 March 2022 in the High-Performance Centre in Pretoria.

This is the first Girls U19 Camp in preparation for the ICC U19 T20 World Cup to be held in January 2023 and will provide an opportunity for them to play competitive cricket against each other before an adjusted 24-player squad is selected.

The players will be divided into three teams and will play internal T20 Matches at the TUKS Oval in Pretoria and at The Walter Milton at WITS University.

CSA Acting Head of Cricket Pathways, Edward Khoza said; “The TAP Program aims to acknowledge the needs of the cricketers that were identified during the CSA Girls Under 19 and 16 age group weeks that took place over the month of December 2021.”

“The identified talent will be taken through their paces as we detect possible performance gaps that can be utilized to structure individual programmes with the intent of optimizing individual future performances.”

“This process is a steppingstone to the selection of the SA U19 team that will be partaking in the inaugural ICC Women’s U19 World Cup scheduled to take place early next year and is geared to provide more and better opportunities for our female pathway,” Khoza concluded.

CSA Girl’s U19 and National Academy Head Coach, Dinesha Devnarain shared her sentiments about the preparations as she looks forward to the girls playing an expressive brand of cricket and being competitive at a higher level.

“This is only the first step towards World Cup preparations; we will be hosting Talent Acceleration Programmes throughout the year, and will create more opportunities and competition in our National Academy programme, said Devnarain”

“It’s an inaugural tournament and I am so pleased that we can have a high-performance structure for the development of the game in South Africa.”

“I believe we have a core group of girls that will be involved in the road map to the World Cup, and I hope they go back home motivated to up their skills and meet the demands of international cricket,” Devnarain concluded.

The U19 Girls team will also take part in the 2022 Women’s Super league.
