Cricket Tasmania’s General Manager of High Performance, Simon Insley, has been announced as the new BLACKCAPS Performance Manager, replacing Mike Sandle.

Insley has previous experience with the BLACKCAPS and NZC High Performance teams – as an assistant manager at the 2019 ICC Cricket World Cup in England, as well as managing NZ A for their 2018 Tour of the UAE.

He has also previously filled High Performance and support staff roles with Auckland Cricket.

Insley said he was thrilled to be joining the BLACKCAPS environment once again.

“I’m really looking forward to this opportunity,” said Insley.

“My previous time with both NZ A and the BLACKCAPS were memorable, so the chance to join the BLACKCAPS in a full-time capacity is exciting.”

“The BLACKCAPS have experienced a long, sustained period of success with a very stable playing base and support staff.

“In the first instance I’ll be there to listen and learn, ensuring the smooth running of the team.

“I’m proud of the work I’ve done with Cricket Tasmania and look forward to watching them continue to grow.

“But, for me, this was ultimately a role I couldn’t look past.”

NZC GM High Performance Cricket, Bryan Stronach, said the English-born Insley was a good fit for the BLACKCAPS environment.

“We want the BLACKCAPS support staff to be full of energised, passionate and forward thinking people and Simon most definitely ticks those boxes,” said Stronach.

Insley’s first assignment is the BLACKCAPS white-ball tour of the Republic of Ireland, Northern Ireland, Scotland and the Netherlands in June.
