All-rounder Carly Leeson has signed a contract extension to remain in red for a fourth WBBL campaign with the Melbourne Renegades.

The 23-year-old has re-committed for WBBL|08 after establishing herself as a regular member of the team over the past three seasons, playing 35 matches in total.

A hard-hitting batter and medium-pace bowler, Leeson played multiple roles for the team in her 11 matches in WBBL|07.

That included a new top score of 41, off just 33 deliveries, batting at number three in a Melbourne Derby win against the Stars.

Leeson said she was excited to continue her journey as a Renegade and hopes the team can build on last year’s return to finals action.

“I’m really looking forward to getting the group back together and hopefully going a couple of games better this year. We’re a close-knit group, we all have each other’s backs and I think that’s what drove most of our success last season,” Leeson said.

“You can’t buy experience, as the saying goes, and every year I feel like I’ve learned something new that I can bring into my game and bring to the team as well.

“I’ll be looking to build on that again this year. I want to be contributing with both bat and ball – I’m comfortable fitting into whatever role the team needs me to play.

“This will be my fourth season with the Renegades, but only the second I’ll be able to play in front of a Renegades home crowd. I’m really looking forward to being able to do that again after the last two years on the road.”

Leeson’s extension follows the recent re-signings of captain Sophie Molineux and fellow all-rounder Rhiann O’Donnell, plus the addition of Australian fast bowler Tayla Vlaeminck.

“We’re pleased to have Carly recommit for a fourth season at the Renegades and look forward to her continuing to develop with our club,” Melbourne Renegades General Manager, James Rosengarten, said.

“She is a versatile player with skills well suited to the T20 game, including her ability to find the boundary and her change-up deliveries with the ball.

“Carly’s re-signing adds to the talented, young group of players on our list for WBBL|08 and we believe there are some exciting times ahead for our team.”

WBBL|08 Squad (so far): Sophie Molineux (C), Ellie Falconer, Rhiann O’Donnell, Tayla Vlaeminck, Georgia Wareham, Courtney Webb
