Talented keeper-batter Josie Dooley has re-committed to the Melbourne Renegades for WBBL|08.

The 22-year-old has signed a one-year extension to remain in red for a fourth campaign.

A mainstay of the team since joining the Renegades ahead of WBBL|05, Dooley has featured in 40 of her 49 WBBL games for the club.

In that period, she has established herself as one of Australia’s best young keeper-batters with the versatility to bat in the top or middle order.

“I’m super excited to re-sign with the Renegades for another season,” Dooley said.

“On the back of last year, it feels like we’re building nicely as a group. There’s a lot of us now in a similar age bracket and growing in experience together, so hopefully we’ll be hitting our best cricket at the same time.

“Last year was probably my favourite in the WBBL, which was a lot to do with ‘Helmo’ and ‘Soph’ as coach and captain. It was a fun, carefree environment. We all backed each other in and that’s something that helped us have some success.

“I still think I have plenty of room to improve my game. With the bat, I’m trying to be consistent and hopefully I can cement a spot up the top of the order and help the team put some winning scores on the board.”

Dooley claimed 11 dismissals (seven catches, four stumpings) last season, with her top score of 37 coming at the top of the order in an 84-run opening stand against the Sydney Thunder.

“Josie has become an important part of our team over the past three seasons and we’re thrilled to have her locked in for WBBL|08,” Melbourne Renegades General Manager, James Rosengarten, said.

“We believe Josie is one of the best keepers in the country and have no doubt she has the skills to develop her batting to be an influential player in our top six. She’s also a great person around our group in terms of culture and the leadership attributes she brings.

“Josie adds to that group of players on our list in their early 20s, who will only continue to get better with more match experience.”

WBBL|08 Squad (so far): Sophie Molineux (C), Josie Dooley, Ellie Falconer, Carly Leeson, Rhiann O’Donnell, Tayla Vlaeminck, Georgia Wareham, Courtney Webb
