Returning Stars Sophie Day, Lucy Cripps and Rhys McKenna have re-signed for WBBL|08 along with new recruit Sophie Reid.

Reid, who was added to the Victorian Women’s contract list for 2022-23, has also been rewarded with her first WBBL contract and the wicket-keeper is already excited for the season ahead.

“I can’t wait for the WBBL this year and I hope that I can continue to improve my game in the coming months. To work with and learn from players like Meg Lanning and Annabel Sutherland will be an amazing experience.”

At just 17, McKenna is the youngest of the quartet, having played 8 games in her debut WBBL season last year, highlighted by taking the wicket of Ellyse Perry on debut. Day has taken 15 wickets across the past two seasons of the WBBL and has been a constant of the Stars lineup, while Cripps is continuing her rehabilitation from a stress fracture of her back and is aiming for a return later in the year.

Melbourne Stars General Manager Blair Crouch said:

“We are committed to the development of the best young female talent in Victoria and it’s great to see Sophie, Lucy and Rhys re-commit to the Stars and we look forward to welcoming Sophie Reid to the Stars Family as well.

“Under the leadership of Meg Lanning and new coach Jonathan Batty, I can’t wait to see their development over the course of WBBL|08.

“We’re excited to get back to playing in Melbourne in front of our members and fans and we’re looking forward to announcing some big signings in the coming weeks as we continue to finalise our playing list.”

Current WBBL|08 squad: Meg Lanning, Lucy Cripps, Sophie Day, Nicole Faltum, Tess Flintoff, Kim Garth, Rhys McKenna, Sasha Moloney, Sophie Reid, Annabel Sutherland.
