The Weber WBBL will commence it’s eighth edition in mid-October, with the league confirming that Tasmania will receive a total of seven fixtures – five of them at Blundstone Arena, and two at Latrobe Recreation Ground, marking the return to the North-West of Tasmania for the first time since WBBL|05.

It will also be the first time in three years that all clubs across the league will host matches in their own markets, playing in 14 metro and regional venues.

The Hurricanes will play five of their seven home games for the season in their home state, with back-to-back matches at both Blundstone Arena and Latrobe Recreation Ground, complimented by home fixtures at Blacktown International Sportspark and Karen Rolton Oval.

The Melbourne Renegades, Sydney Thunder and Brisbane Heat will also play fixtures at Blundstone Arena over a jam-packed weekend in early November.

Hobart Hurricanes General Manager, Scott Barnes, said the scheduling was a win for cricketing fans across all Tasmania.

“It’s fantastic for the Hurricanes as an organisation to be able to return to the North-West of the state for the first time in three years,” Barnes said.

“We’re looking forward to playing in front of our home crowds and expressing our appreciation to our fans for their passion and loyalty in supporting us.”

“We’re also thrilled to have Hydro Tasmania supporting us again as our WBBL Principal Partner. We can’t wait to have them join us for another season, and we look forward to working together to connect Tasmanians.”

“From our players perspective, playing in front of crowds across the country (including five games here in Tasmania) is a fantastic opportunity to have as a group, we know they can’t wait for the season to get started.”

Hobart Hurricanes WBBL Head Coach, Salliann Beams, was similarly pleased with the scheduling.

“To have certainty about when and where we are playing gives us the best opportunity to prepare for what will no doubt be a highly competitive season,” Beams said.

“The league did a fantastic job last year navigating the ever-evolving COVID situation, but we are thrilled to have a schedule that we can work off, and to have five home games here in Tasmania is fantastic for our players and our fans.”

“To take high level women’s cricket to the north-west of the state is also incredibly exciting for us – by showcasing some of the best players in the world to Tasmanian girls in that region, it’s a chance for us to grow the game and inspire the next generation of young Tasmanian athletes.”

Tickets to all Weber WBBL|08 matches will be available via pre-sale on August 16 and available to the public from August 18.
