More home games, more action at Lilac Hill, and more themed rounds.

Perth Scorchers fans have plenty to look forward to ahead of the 2022-23 Weber Women’s Big Bash League season, after Cricket Australia this morning released its schedule for WBBL|08.

Perth are poised to play at least six games on home turf for the first time since the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic, starting with a day-night contest against Melbourne Stars at the WACA Ground on Thursday 20 October.

During this match – the Home of the Champions; a celebration of last year’s WBBL title – the WACA Ground will unveil its new state of the art LED light towers, which were recently upgraded as part of the WACA Ground Improvement Project.

A weekend of WBBL action at the same iconic venue will follow two days later, with Perth slated to play their inaugural Pride match against Sydney Thunder (Saturday October 22) followed by a Retro Round contest against Hobart Hurricanes (Sunday October 23).

The Scorchers’ renowned Lilac Hill festival will feature a game against Sydney Sixers on Saturday November 5, where fans will firmly set their sights on breaking the dog attendance record of 60. WBBL action returns to the venue the following day when Perth take on Adelaide Strikers for the Indigenous Match.

A third Lilac Hill match on Wednesday 9 November against Brisbane Heat has also been added to the mix, rounding out Perth’s list of regular season home games.

On the road, the Scorchers have stints in Sydney, Brisbane and Melbourne before finishing their home-and-away campaign in the regional Victorian town of Moe.

Five matches will be simulcast by Channel 7 and Foxtel, with the remaining games broadcast by Foxtel and CA Live.

The WBBL|08 Finals series will take place following the conclusion of the regular season on November 20, with dates and details of each match to be confirmed.

Reflecting on Perth’s schedule, the Scorchers’ WBBL Head Coach Shelley Nitschke said:

“We’re excited by what this year’s fixture has to offer.

“Hosting six home games in Perth is big for the squad, both in terms of knowing local conditions, and having the opportunity to play in front of our Members, fans, family and friends.

“Playing three of those games at Lilac Hill is also handy. We love playing there, and it’ll be great to experience the festivities of that weekend again.

“Overall, it’s an exciting base to build from. We can’t wait for the season to roll around again, so we can get to work and make Perth proud.”

Perth Scorchers General Manager – Commercial, Marketing & Stakeholder Engagement Jess Keily said:

“Playing our first home game in primetime under the WACA Ground’s brilliant new LED lights is an amazing outcome for our players and our Scorchers Members and Fans, and we’re excited to deliver an incredible experience to celebrate our reigning WBBL champions.

“The Lilac Hill festival has become one of the highlights of the season; we want to see everyone come down with their dogs and break another ‘dog attendance record’ on the Saturday! Our Indigenous match on the Sunday will see Aboriginal kids from all across WA play the curtain raiser in the annual Kambarang Carnival, and the addition of a third game at Lilac Hill the following Wednesday is a huge bonus.

“We’ll unveil a few more themed games, including our inaugural Pride Match and a Retro Round, which will both be played at the WACA Ground.

“We’re also thrilled to be involved in five of Channel Seven’s 24 live free-to-air matches, while the opportunity to play in the new Thursday night time slot is certainly something to look forward to.”
