Playing under a new head coach for the first time since the launch of the tournament, the Sydney Sixers have been handed a mouthwatering draw in the Weber WBBL|08 fixture that was announced today.

The Weber WBBL is returning to fans around the country, with all Clubs to play home matches during the season for the first time in three years. The Sixers didn’t play a single match in Sydney last summer, locked out of NSW due to border restrictions.

This season the Sixers will launch their campaign in the tournament opener against the Brisbane Heat in Mackay on October 13 and then play four matches in Sydney later in the tournament – three matches at North Sydney Oval during the season’s final regular season week and a blockbuster Sydney Smash against the Thunder at Blacktown International Sportspark on November 2.

Coach Charlotte Edwards and her team, that will be led by Australian stars Alyssa Healy and Ash Gardner, will play matches on the road in Mackay, Adelaide, Ballarat, Perth and Melbourne.

Healy, who has been with the Sixers since the tournament’s inception and who played her 100th WBBL game for the club last season, said she was excited to by the thought of playing in front of a crowd sporting the team’s magenta playing colours.

“I’m very excited for this year’s WBBL, obviously the last two seasons being restricted with COVID,  it’s going to be nice back at home, playing in front of the Sixers crowd,” said Healy. “It will be nice to see al the fans in magenta again.

“Seeing all the young kids and the families coming to our sport is what the WBBL has been about since its inception.

“For us, going to North Sydney Oval and seeing all the young kids – boys and girls – playing cricket on the hill and lining up for autographs after and photos makes our job very special.”

Not since the WBBL|05 season have all clubs hosted matches in their own markets – but in Weber WBBL|08, 14 metro and regional venues will play host to the world’s best cricket league for women.

In all, 12 matches will be played across North Sydney Oval, Manuka Oval and Blacktown International Sportspark.

The return to a national footprint comes alongside confirmation that 24 matches will be televised on Seven – 7 featuring the Sixers, with all 59 games will once again available on Foxtel and Kayo.

Additional coverage will be provided by ABC Radio and cricket.com.au.

This broadcast footprint includes a new, regular Thursday prime time slot on Seven and Foxtel, beginning with the season opener between Heat and Sixers. In all, there will be 17 prime time matches in Weber WBBL|08, the most in any season, while a return to a regular WBBL footprint means just 15 of the 59 matches will be in neutral venues.

Importantly, no Weber WBBL match will clash with any of Australia’s games in the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup, ensuring fans can enjoy the best of both competitions either at the venue or on TV.

The Weber WBBL|08 Finals series will take place following the conclusion of the regular season on November 20, with dates and details of each match to be confirmed.
