Talented batter Mackenzie Harvey has extended his deal with the Melbourne Renegades until the end of BBL|13.

The 21-year-old was already contracted for the upcoming season and has elected to re-sign for another year.

It will take Harvey into a seventh BBL season with the club, after first signing as a replacement player at the age of 17 in BBL|07.

Harvey was a member of the Renegades’ title-winning team the following year and has since established himself as a versatile batter and one of the best fielders in the Big Bash.

“I’m excited to be extending my time at the club and to now be locked in for the next two seasons,” Harvey said.

“On a personal level, I feel like I’ve come a long way with my cricket over the last couple of years and can have an impact for the team whether that’s at the top or through the middle order.

“There’s still plenty of room for me to grow and some great players at the Renegades for me to learn from.

“We have a really strong bond within our playing group at the Renegades. We haven’t performed the way we would have liked in recent times, but we know we have the talent and experience to turn things around, which is what we’re determined to do this season.”

Harvey has played 35 BBL matches for the Renegades, including 12 last season.

The left-hander was the Renegades’ second highest run-scorer in BBL|11 with 231 runs, which included two half-centuries and a new top score of 71 not out against the Brisbane Heat.

“Mackenzie is an important part of our future and it’s pleasing to have him commit until the end of BBL|13,” Melbourne Renegades General Manager, James Rosengarten, said.

“He’s a young leader within our group with a real appetite to improve as a player. He’s an exceptional fielder and offers great versatility to our batting group, as someone who can adjust to various roles in the top and middle order.

“Mackenzie’s still only 21 years of age but has a great base now to hopefully take his game to another level over the next couple of years.”

BBL|12 Squad (so far): Nic Maddinson (C), Zak Evans, Aaron Finch, Jake Fraser-McGurk, Sam Harper, Mackenzie Harvey, Shaun Marsh, Kane Richardson
