In partnership with the Humanitarian Organisation Ashraful Aid, The Lions Cricket family spent their Mandela Day packing food and hygiene hampers. Having launched on 1 July, the “Fill up Imperial Wanderers with food and hygiene hampers” call-to-action campaign resulted in excess of 20 000 people receiving relief during the bitter Winter month.

Lions Cricket CEO Jono Leaf-Wright who himself packed from early morning until the last box left, thanked all partners and those involved for going above and beyond their 67 minutes.

“The iconic Imperial Wanderers pitch was alight yesterday, serving as a fantastic reminder of what we can do when we work together. Under the warm Winter sun, players, partners, beauty queens and even the Executive Mayor of Joburg, Doctor Mpho Phalatse, former Miss Universe Zozibini Tunzi and 2020 Miss SA Shudufhadzo Musida got stuck in and lent a hand for those in need.”

Moulana Suhail Wadee, Director, Ashraful Aid concurs;

“Yesterday’s packing was a terrific show of teamwork. The players, partners and general public thoroughly enjoyed working hard, knowing that their efforts are appreciated more than they will ever know. I thank Lions Cricket and all involved.”

All hampers will be donated to various families, other Non-profit Organisations within Gauteng including Early Development Centres, Child headed homes and more.
