The Hong Kong Men’s squad to compete at the ICC Challenge League B – Round 3 Tournament to be held in Jersey from the 2nd August – 15th August 2022 has been named.
This tournament will be the last of three rounds of Challenge League B. After two rounds Hong Kong is currently sitting in second place one point behind Uganda. The first round was played in November 2019 in Oman and the second round was played in Uganda in June 2022.
The Challenge League B tournament involves six countries: Bermuda, Hong Kong, Italy, Jersey, Kenya, and Uganda. At the conclusion of the third round, the team finishing first will progress to the ICC Cricket World Cup Qualifier Play-off involving six teams with the top four gaining ODI status.
In preparation for the tournament, the squad will spend 11 days in Kent for a combination of training and fixtures.
Head Coach Trent Johnston had this to say:
“This final tournament of Challenge League B has been a long time coming and we’re pleased to be entering the tournament in striking distance of Uganda. We know what we are coming up against having played all the teams recently in Uganda. It’s going to be a matter of focusing on one ball at a time, backing our skills, and executing our plans.”
Director of Cricket on the CHK Board, Rahul Sharma had this to say:
“It’s an exciting time for the squad to be entering the final round of Challenge League B with the opportunity to win the league. The squad has been playing an unprecedented amount of cricket with back-to-back tournaments since the beginning of June. We will be right behind the team every game.
We’re very proud of their efforts and we know they will continue to represent Hong Kong to the best of their ability.”
Captain Nizakat Khan had this to say,
“It has been great to be back playing international cricket. Despite some of the challenges we’ve faced, I know each and every member of this squad is loving every minute of being back on the park. This final round of Challenge League B presents a great opportunity for the senior players to use their experience and lead from the front. We’re all incredibly proud to represent Hong Kong and are looking forward to competing in the final round of Challenge League B.”
