South Australian local product Thomas Kelly will remain a Striker, signing a deal to keep him in Adelaide for the next two seasons.

Joining the Strikers last summer as a replacement for captain Travis Head, Kelly quickly became a mainstay in the side, playing every match following his debut.

Recruited for his batting skill and athletic prowess in the field, Kelly (affectionately known as ‘TK’) impressed with his ability to contribute runs quickly in the middle order.

Presented his Strikers cap in unusual circumstances in front of a closed crowd in Sydney, Kelly proved unfazed by the conditions, putting on a healthy 26 (from 15) and impressing in the outfield.

Quickly cementing his status as a fan favourite, the 21-year-old notched 214 runs at an average of 21.40 across his 15 matches last summer.

The leading run-scorer in SACA’s Twenty20 competition, Kelly accrued 289 runs from just five appearances for his local Sturt, including a best knock of 105 not out.

Eager to see what the Strikers can achieve in BBL|12, Kelly says opportunity to stay in Adelaide was too good to pass up:

“I’m absolutely stoked to be back!

“It was such an unreal experience playing for the Strikers last year, and I can’t wait to do it all again this summer.

“I love running out at Adelaide Oval and can’t wait to get going this season.”

Head Coach Jason Gillespie is equally excited to see the 21-year-old pull on the blue again this summer:

“We are thrilled that TK will be with us for the next two seasons.

“Thomas is a much-loved member of our group but he’s also incredibly skilful and dedicated to his cricket. He’s still young but he’s always eager to learn and to improve his game.

“We saw him produce some great moments last summer and the energy and enthusiasm that he brings to the field is unbeatable.

“We’re really looking forward to seeing him take his game to the next level this season.”
