Experienced bowler Sarah Coyte has signed with the Melbourne Renegades.

The former Australia pace bowler – who represented her country on 81 occasions, across all three formats – has inked a two-year deal to be a Renegade until at least the end of WBBL|09.

Coyte has been one of the WBBL’s most prolific wicket-takers in recent years.

The 31-year-old has claimed 53 wickets over the past three seasons and was the competition’s equal fifth-highest wicket-taker in WBBL|07, with 16 scalps.

After spending the past four seasons in Adelaide, Coyte is excited to be joining a Renegades group on the rise.

“I’m looking forward to a new challenge. I think this Renegades group is an exciting one to be part of and when the opportunity presented to come across, I jumped at it.”

“Hopefully I can continue my form in the Big Bash from the last couple of seasons.”

“I like to keep things very simple. Hopefully I can add a bit of experience to the group with my bowling and through the lower order and also help some of the younger players to trust their skills out in the middle.”

“It will be really cool to play alongside Sophie Molineux and under her as captain. I’m also looking forward to playing with Harmanpreet Kaur – she usually hits me over the rope, so I’d like to watch her hit someone else over it!”

Only six players have taken more wickets than Coyte since the WBBL’s inception – she has claimed 93 wickets from her 91 matches.

Coyte adds a wealth of experience to a local playing list made up of players aged 24-or-under, following cross-code star Jess Duffin committing to AFLW this season.

“The addition of Sarah to our playing list is a really important one and we’re excited to have her commit to our club,” Melbourne Renegades General Manager, James Rosengarten, said.

“We were looking to bolster our pace bowling stocks and add some more experience to our group – and Sarah certainly ticks both of those boxes, as well as adding some power to our lower order.

“She is a proven wicket-taker who has been remarkably consistent over the past three WBBL tournaments. We hope she can continue her great form as a Renegade over the coming seasons.”

Renegades Memberships are now on sale for the upcoming season – view our packages here which include access to our home WBBL matches.

WBBL|08 Squad (so far): Sophie Molineux (C), Sarah Coyte, Josie Dooley, Ellie Falconer, Ella Hayward, Harmanpreet Kaur, Carly Leeson, Rhiann O’Donnell, Tayla Vlaeminck, Georgia Wareham, Courtney Webb
