Cricket South Africa (CSA) have today named the latest South African Emerging squad set to take on Zimbabwe in a five-match Women’s T20 series between 28 August – 03 September in Tshwane.

The battle gets underway this Sunday from 10h00 SAST at the Groenkloof Oval at the University of Pretoria, with all the action streamed live on Pitch Vision.

A blended group of rising stars, including talents from the Momentum Proteas, high-performance and South Africa Under-19 set-ups were selected as South Africa continue their preparations towards hosting next year’s ICC Women’s U19 T20 World Cup and the Women’s T20 World Cup.

SA Emerging 15-player squad vs Zimbabwe:

Micaela Andrews (Six Gun Grill Garden Route Badgers Women), Nobulumko Baneti (Hollywoodbets Dolphins Ladies), Anneke Bosch (North West Dragons Women), Monalisa Legodi (Fidelity Titans), Simone Lourens (Fidelity Titans), Tebogo Macheke (Fidelity Titans), Seshnie Naidu (Hollywoodbets Dolphins Ladies), Raisibe Ntozakhe (DP World Lions Women), Kayla Reyneke (Six Gun Grill Western Province Women), Nondumiso Shangase (Hollywoodbets Dolphins Ladies), Miane Smit (Free State Women), Delmi Tucker (Six Gun Grill Western Province Women), Faye Tunnicliffe (Six Gun Grill Western Province Women), Elandri Janse van Rensburg (North West Dragons Women), Caitlin Wyngaard (Six Gun Grill Western Province Women)

Amongst the 15-player contingent gathered at the CSA Centre of Excellence in Pretoria are Proteas Women all-rounders and Team South Africa members at the recent Commonwealth Games, Anneke Bosch, and Delmi Tucker. They are joined by Raisibe Ntozake, Nondumiso Shangase and Faye Tunnicliffe, who are also capped at national level.

Six Gun Grill Garden Route Badgers Women’s reigning Player of the Year, Micaela Andrews, wicketkeeper Tebogo Macheke and fast bowler, Nobulumko Baneti will add more experience in a squad that will be largely made up of future stars from the SA U19s.

Starlets such as all-rounder, Seshnie Naidu, wicketkeeper batter, Simone Lourens, and top-order striker, Elandri Janse van Rensburg, who were all part of last month’s series against Namibia, have been brought in along with some of their teammates to take on a senior Zimbabwe outfit.

Leading up to commencement of the series, the SA Emerging have held a pre-tour camp focused on physical assessments, technical skills as well middle sessions to ensure ultimate readiness for the T20 battle ahead.

SA U19 and National Academy head coach, Dinesha Devnarain commented:

“It’s a good crop of players that we have here. If you look at the U19 set up, we have a few girls in matric, so they won’t be joining us. That still leaves us with 50% of our U19 squad. We have a couple of players that have just come back from England with loads of experience as well as skillsets. Then you have your Emerging players, who have been in and around the SA camps but haven’t cracked the nod.

“You’ve got 15 players that want it really bad and that’s always easy for a coach to work with.

“We’ve got two World Cups at home and when you talk about depth in South African women’s cricket, it’s got to come out of this programme. We have to make sure that these players get the required tools to perform at that level.

“This is a great steppingstone for both of the World Cups. I am glad that it is a T20 series, and we are playing against an opposition that really wants to do well.

“They (Zimbabwe) have their World Cup qualifiers coming up soon, so it’s a great platform to put in place things you want to see at the World Cup; your KPIs, the brand of cricket you want to play, how you want to look on the field and the combinations you want to play,” the coach added.
