Respected allrounder and former Strikers captain Johan Botha will join Adelaide’s coaching panel in KFC BBL|12.

Botha is set to support Head Coach Jason Gillespie this summer as an Assistant Coach focusing on bowling, fielding and tactics.

South African-born Botha played 27 matches for the club and served as skipper between BBL|02 and BBL|04. He’s a veteran of 71 BBL matches including stints with the Sydney Sixers and most recently the Hobart Hurricanes in BBL|10.

A revered figure in world cricket, Botha has played more than 600 matches across all three formats in a career spanning over two decades.

The right-arm off-spinner is a former South African limited overs captain and featured in five Tests, 78 ODIs and 40 T20Is for the Proteas.

Botha previously led South Australia in both one-day and first-class fixtures between 2012-2014 and has enjoyed successful seasons in the Indian Premier League with the Rajasthan Royals, Delhi Daredevils and Kolkata Knight Riders, underlining his wealth of experience in the sport.

Botha also boasts strong coaching credentials, serving as Head Coach for the Guyana Amazon Warriors in the Caribbean Premier League in 2018 and Islamabad United in the 2021 Pakistan Super League following several PSL assistant coaching roles.

Botha said he was eager to return to Adelaide Oval in a coaching capacity this summer.

“I have so many fantastic memories from Adelaide Oval and can’t wait to get to work with Jason Gillespie and the other Strikers support staff,” Botha said.

“The squad has great potential coming off a really strong season last summer and I’m looking forward to what we can achieve together in BBL|12.”

Head Coach Jason Gillespie said Botha would be a valuable addition to the club’s coaching panel.

“Johan has an incredible cricket mind having played in every format and various leagues across the globe,” Gillespie said.

“A man of his experience will be such an asset for our players and us as a collective coaching group. I can’t wait to work with him this summer.”

Tickets are now available for Adelaide’s BBL|12 campaign, which begins under lights at Adelaide Oval against the Sydney Sixers on December 14.
