The BBL Championship Trophy commenced its 13-day tour of Australia in Perth today, beginning the countdown to the 2022-23 KFC Big Bash League season.

Attendees at Day 2 of the NRMA Insurance Test versus the West Indies witnessed Perth Scorchers skipper Ashton Turner lift the trophy aloft at Perth Stadium, which the Club claimed for a record fourth time last season.

A stint in Adelaide will follow before the trophy is taken across Australia’s east coast, from Cairns in far-north Queensland to Hobart in south-east Tasmania.

The tour concludes at Canberra’s Manuka Oval, when it is delivered to the centre wicket at Canberra’s Mankua Oval ahead of the BBL|12 season opener between Sydney Thunder and Melbourne Stars.

Perth will kick off their title defence against Sydney Sixers at Optus Stadium on 17 December, in a match themed ‘Home of the Champions’ celebrating the Club’s most recent championship.

All 61 matches of BBL|12 will be broadcast live on Seven and/or Foxtel, Kayo Sports and SEN.

Scorchers tickets can be purchased here.

Alistair Dobson, Cricket Australia’s General Manager Big Bash Leagues, said:

“The BBL Trophy represents everything we love about the Big Bash – world-class entertainment, world-class cricket and stadiums packed with fans.

“The trophy also symbolises the spirit of fun and innovation that underpins the success of the Big Bash. There is no trophy quite like it when fully lit in the colours of the champion team.

“It’s our wish to share the BBL|12 Championship Trophy with Australia before it takes pride of place at another Club’s headquarters.

“In addition, the League is delighted for the Albury and Cairns communities to rub shoulders with the Trophy before teams roll into town for the first time.”
