Fast bowler Jordan Buckingham has been signed as a replacement player for the Adelaide Strikers in KFC BBL|12.

Buckingham has been in good form for the West End Redbacks in the Marsh Sheffield Shield and recently made his first Australian squad in a CA XI warm up match against South Africa.

With Travis Head and Alex Carey on Australian duties, Buckingham is filling one of their spots on the list until they return.

Buckingham said he can’t wait to be involved with the Big Bash League.

“It’s my first opportunity in BBL and I can’t wait to give it a crack with the Strikers,” Buckingham said.

‘I’m excited to train alongside some of my Redbacks teammates and learn from some of the interstate and international additions to the BBL side.”

Strikers Head Coach Jason Gillespie said Buckingham’s competitive nature earned him a spot on the list.

“We love the way Jordan goes about it – he runs in hard all day and trains as hard as he plays,” Gillespie said.

“He deserves an opportunity at this level and we look forward to seeing how he goes.”

Buckingham has been named in a 13-man squad for Wednesday’s opening match against the Sydney Sixers at Adelaide Oval. As a local replacement player, BBL rules dictate that the player has to be named in the 12 in the next match after the signing.

Four other players are a chance for their Strikers debut on Wednesday – Colin de Grandhomme, Adam Hose, Chris Lynn and Ben Manenti.

Internationals de Grandhomme and Hose are in line to play their first match in the Big Bash League.

Strikers squad: Wes Agar, Jordan Buckingham, Colin de Grandhomme, Adam Hose, Thomas Kelly, Rashid Khan, Chris Lynn, Ben Manenti, Harry Nielsen (wk), Matt Short, Peter Siddle (c), Henry Thornton, Jake Weatherald
