Perth Scorchers star Beth Mooney has been crowned Australia’s best women’s cricketer from the past 12 months, claiming the Belinda Clark Award at the 2023 Australian Cricket Awards.
Perth Scorchers star Beth Mooney has been crowned Australia’s best women’s cricketer from the past 12 months, claiming the Belinda Clark Award at the 2023 Australian Cricket Awards.
Mooney has become the sixth player to win multiple Belinda Clark Medals, joining an illustrious group which includes current Australian skipper Meg Lanning, Shelley Nitschke, Karen Rolton, Lisa Sthalekar and Ellyse Perry.
The 29-year-old star opener dominated across all formats, amassing 976 runs at an average of 65.1 and a strike-rate of 102.6 during the voting period.
Mooney won her second Belinda Clark Award with 129 votes, ahead of runner-up Meg Lanning (110) and Tahlia McGrath (95) in third place.
Mooney took out the One-Day International Player of the Year award, which included Australia’s 2022 ICC Women’s World Cup triumph in New Zealand, where she scored an unbeaten 62 off 47 balls in the Final.
Mooney’s top score for the year, an unbeaten 73, was the catalyst for Australia’s 27-run win in the opening One-Day International against England at Manuka Oval in February.
Perth Scorchers and Western Australian quick Lance Morris has capped off a breakout summer, by being named the Bradman Young Cricketer of the Year.
The 24-year-old has been a key contributor in his five KFC Big Bash League appearances for Perth this season, taking nine wickets at 15.22 with a tight economy rate of 6.85.
Morris has also shown his talent in the longer form of the game, currently sitting atop the wicket-takers list in the 2022-23 Marsh Sheffield Shield, with 27 scalps at an average of 18.40 in five matches.
The tearaway started off the summer in style, capturing career-best match figures of 9-82 in WA’s convincing eight-wicket win over New South Wales at the WACA Ground.
