The Sydney Sixers have secured the signature of one of the club’s all-time greats ahead of tonight’s blockbuster Challenger Final, with Steve O’Keefe putting pen to paper for next season.

A foundation member of the club and three-time BBL champion, O’Keefe has remained an integral part of the Sixers success over the course of the competition, playing a major role in the club’s three title wins.

The 38-year-old will return next summer for his thirteenth season in magenta but not before looking to secure a fourth Big Bash trophy this weekend.

The Sixers will host the Brisbane Heat tonight at the SCG with the home side looking to book a place in their seventh BBL Final on Saturday.

With 90 career wickets to his name and one of the best economy rates in the league, O’Keefe looks set to mark his 100th appearance for the Sixers tonight, with 93 Big Bash games and six Champions League Twenty20 matches currently under his belt.

The left-arm spinner has continued to perform on-field this summer, collecting 12 wickets from his eight appearances, including a match-winning 4-10 against the Sydney Thunder a fortnight ago.

Head of Sydney Sixers Jonathan Robinson-Lees praised O’Keefe’s commitment to the club over the last decade.

“Steve is a foundation player and an important leader for the Sixers.” Robinson-Lees said.

“It’s no coincidence that Steve has been such a large part of the Sixers’ on-field success. His cricket nous and understanding of the T20 format have been instrumental for the club for over a decade.

“We are excited for him to be returning for BBL|13 and know that Sixers fans look forward to seeing him again next summer.”

Sydney fans will have the opportunity to see O’Keefe in action for the final time at home this season when the Sixers host the Challenger Final tonight at the SCG.
