In last night’s Women’s Premier League auction, four Melbourne Stars players were sold ahead of the inaugural edition of the tournament.

Out of the four players picked up in the auction, three went to the Delhi Capitals which is coached by Melbourne Stars WBBL coach Jonathan Batty.

Jemimah Rodrigues – Delhi Capitals

Sold for the fifth highest price in the auction for AUD $384,000, Rodrigues was the first selection for the Delhi Capitals.

Meg Lanning – Delhi Capitals

Lanning was sold to the Delhi Capitals for AUD $192,000 after an opening bid from the Mumbai Indians.

Annabel Sutherland – Gujarat Giants

Despite bids from UP Warriorz and the Delhi Capitals, the all-rounder joined the Gujarat Giants for AUD $122,000.

Alice Capsey – Delhi Capitals

It was an incredible day for Capsey who was sold to the Delhi Capitals for AUD $130,000 and was selected whilst playing for England against Ireland in the T20 World Cup. Capsey led England to victory hitting the joint-fastest fifty at the Women’s T20 World Cup bringing up a half-century with a six off 21 deliveries.

The first Women’s Premier League will be played between March 4-26 in Mumbai.
