SA Scorpions batter Courtney Webb has become the first Scorpion to win the WNCL Player of the Year award in over a decade.

Webb received the award ahead of the WNCL Final in which the Scorpions will take on the Tasmanian Tigers at Blundstone Arena on Saturday.

An ever-consistent number four bat, Webb made 511 runs at an average of 51.10 with a healthy strike-rate of 86.46 this season, including her maiden WNCL century against New South Wales at Karen Rolton Oval.

Webb backed it up the following round, hitting a second-consecutive century in front of her family and friends in her home state of Tasmania.

She finished not out in both of her century hitting innings and slogged a total of 58 boundaries across the 12 games.

The former AFLW player made another three half-centuries, all in winning matches.

This season followed on from Webb’s breakout WNCL season in 2021-22, where she topped the competitions run-scoring list and won her first Andrea McCauley medal as the Scorpions best and fairest player.

The last South Australian player to win the WNCL Player of the Year was Kris Britt in the 2010-11 season, while prior to that SA legend Karen Rolton won the award a record five times.

Saturday’s final will get underway at 1:35pm ACDT and will be broadcast live on the Cricket Australia app and Kayo from 1:30pm.
