The Sydney Thunder have confirmed their men’s and women’s teams ahead of the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander T20 Cup, set to begin in Albury (Wiradjuri Country) tomorrow.
Established in 2015, the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander T20 Cup offers an opportunity to celebrate Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander culture intertwined with cricket. The three-day tournament, played on Wiradjuri Country, will see teams representing the Thunder, Sydney Sixers, Melbourne Stars, Melbourne Renegades, and a combined Cricket Victoria women’s team.
Players will wear playing shirts matching those worn by the WBBL & BBL teams this summer, designed by Sydney-based Yuin woman, Rheanna Lotter. Symbolising the connection of the Thunder Nation, the playing shirts feature a large circle representing the Thunder teams (men’s and women’s), smaller circles representing past, present and future players and stars representing Aboriginal ancestors.
The Thunder women’s team will feature two future stars, 16-year-old Wiradjuri woman, Callee Black and Dharawal woman Taleha Urszulak – with the pair both selected for the National Women’s Indigenous squad set to tour Vanuatu in May.
